Police arrest 170 Chinese, Taiwanese for cyber crimes

The National Police have apprehended 170 foreigners living in Indonesia for alleged involvement in an Internet-based scamming activity. Seventy-three of the foreigners are of Chinese nationality and 97 Taiwanese.
"From the total 170, 120 are male," National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said, adding that the foreigners were a part of a syndicate with operating headquarters in several countries, including Indonesia.

Boy said the arrests were executed on a lead provided by the Chinese National Police.

“Further investigation into this case will be carried out by the Chinese Police," Boy said. "We are cooperating with the Indonesian immigration office.”

The multiple arrests were carried out in three residential places in Serpong, Bekasi and North Jakarta.

Dozens of personal computers and cellular phones were confiscated in the process.
